Habitual Thankfuls (A #10Thankful Post)

As usual, my brain is full & chaotic. BUT, I am finding it highly therapeutic to make sure to list my thankfuls each weekend. . .ย Habitual Thankfuls

So, in the interest of sticking to this habit, here’s a quick & dirty list, in no particular order:

Online communities. Whether it’s Facebook, my newly active Twitter, WordPress, or any of the other online communities in which I participate, I am grateful for them. I am a homebody. These communities enable me to feel somewhat connected despite my natural tendencies.

My massage & chiropractic visits. I go once every two weeks. I’d go more if I thought it to be financially prudent. I get a one-hour massage, followed by a chiropractic adjustment & I usually feel considerably better for it. Between my steady weight-gain over the past couple of years & my scoliosis that I’ve known about for almost as long as I can remember, the relief is something in which to be grateful.

Our comfy king-size bed. I’ve been so damn tired lately! Plus, since I am on summer break, I have let myself sleep in or take naps or whatever. . . Ugh.

My Kindle Fire. Yep. This week, I finished “An Echo in the Bone,” the seventh book in the Outlander seriesย by Diana Gabaldon. I also started “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood,” the eighth book in that same series. It’s the last one published, but it shouldn’t be the last one in the series. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am pretty much all about all things Outlander these days…

OxiClean Triple Action Booster. I’m not joking. It’s a fluid you put in your dishwasher. It is a rinse-aidย and it can be used to clean your dishwasherย and it can be used to boost cleaning of your dishes. We have some seriously hard water here. It is disgusting. Dishes come out of the dishwasher all white & gross & I don’t even want to use them. I cleaned the dishwasher with this stuff, then used it on a load of dishes &, while they did not come out as perfectly as I would have liked, they were the cleanest they’ve been in MONTHS. Yes. I am grateful for that!

God. You don’t have to believe if you don’t want to. . . But I do. . . & I know He has His plan that is separate from my own for my life. He works in mysterious & wonderful ways. . . & I’ve seen — & actually recognized — God’s plan in action this week. I am grateful for that. . . & I am trying to relax & remember this.

The Honors Program. Yep. It’s not just extra work & a few words on my transcripts. It is cold, hard cash. There was an extra $500 added to my financial aid in the form of a reimbursement scholarship this week. On that same day, a financial aid refund was initiated by my school. This means that money will hit our bank account soon! Whoo hoo! My straight A’s areย literallyย paying off. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yep. Grateful!

Cable Television. I know. Almost pathetic, right? But, it isย awesome when I can’t turn my brain off, but I also can’t get it to focus on my writing — or even on reading. It’s mindless, but entertaining. . . & even when Iย can focus on my writing, the Music Choice channels (usually one of the country stations) provide excellent background noise. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rain. I miss it. Out running errands yesterday, right when I was getting so hot, I wasย literally dripping sweat, a gust of wind came through & it started raining. (Okay, maybe not raining. Perhaps, “sprinkling” is a more appropriate term, but you get the idea.)ย The temperature dropped at least 10 degrees, I would almost swear it! Plus, it just smells lovely when it rains for the first time in forever. . . & the moisture in the air is a welcomed relief to my sinuses, which seem painful & dry more often than not. Rain, here in Arizona, especially, is certainly something to be grateful for.

The handsome husband. I am grateful for him forย so many reasons. . . I know I say so here all the time. . . I just don’t want it to be overlooked because I say it so often. He really is my best friend & the most supportive husband I could have ever asked for — & certainly more than I could have ever hoped to actually get to call mine. One of the most recent examples is from just this morning. He got off work & shortly after went to Lowe’s right when it opened to get what he needed to replace our garbage disposal since it crapped out. THEN, he came home & got to work replacing it. He didn’t go to bed until something around 10am when he needs to be up by 3pm to get to work. . . This is the kind of dedication he has. It’s only one example & it is certainly not all-inclusive, but, I just have to say, I thank God every day for him. I love him a bit more each day & I am so grateful to have him as my husband.

What are YOUR thankfuls this week? Let me know in the comments or drop me a note on Facebook, then pop over to the Ten Things of Thankful blog hop to see what others are thankful for this week.

  1. I have a really bad back. Half my spine is held together with metal and a prayer and while I would love to go to a chiropractor, I’ve been banned from them (my neurosurgeon says NOPE). But what really helps me, is a TENS machine. I’m sure that your chiropractor has used this on you? I was thankfully able to get mine through my insurance carrier (although it was a giant pain in the you know what).
Congrats on your honors program! That’s fantastic smarty pants you!!!
I love the rain. We are supposed to get it all week. I’ll send some your way ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I have heard of a TENS machine, but I am not sure if one has actually been used on me. (I used to work for a medical supply company.) Tee hee. I am proud of the grades, for sure. Please do send some rain my way! This desert needs more! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I love rain (mostly when I’m not out in it…) and I say Amen to your God one. Definitely.
    So many good things here…
Online community is a big one for me. I never thought I’d like the social media scene, but I have to admit it has brought me some connections and friendships and more that I never imagined. And I have a tendency to be a homebody and an introvert so that helps keep me from turning recluse! ๐Ÿ˜€
Love your posts. Have a great week – keep the thankfulness going!

    1. Here in Arizona, I love being outdoors when it rains. . .It’s still warm, but the rain is incredibly refreshing! I love it!

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Lisa. I cannot tell you enough how much it means to me. . .

  3. Congratulations on the scholarship/reimbursement!! That is a big accomplishment!

I have nothing but good things to say about my Kindle. Love it.

I always have so many knots in my back. I have gone to get a massage a few times in my life. My back is so bad that the woman remembered it from a full year before. There’s just never time. Maybe this year, now that all of my kids will be in school, I’ll be able to go more often.

    1. Thank you!! I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t proud of my grades. . . & my kindle quickly became a treasured possession, for sure. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My scoliosis makes massages a near necessity. . . I don’t know how I went so long without them!

  4. I like my kindle, too, but it hasn’t been working properly lately. Whenever I click the “download” button to borrow a book from the library, I just get a blank page. I need to figure out how to fix it.
I might have to try Oxi-Clean Triple Booster. We have hard water here, too.
God does have a plan for each of us. It’s nice when we can recognize his hand in our lives.
Congratulations on being paid for your good grades! What a nice bonus–and what an incentive!

      1. I don’t exactly remember, which must mean it’s old. However, last night I was able to get the book to download, so many it actually was a problem with the site and not the kindle. ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. Maybe. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Mine just forced an update on me the other night & I realized some of its bogging down was probably due to that. . . Plus, I don’t always power it off, so it winds up staying on for days! Oops! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Congrats on your extra $500 that is awesome. I like how you think with sleep and the king sized bed! Also thanks for the oxi-clean tip, I use it in the laundry but haven’t tried it for the dishwasher,

    1. Tee hee! Yes!!! I have been on the hunt for SOMETHING to help with the dishes & so far, it’s worked like a charm. We shall see if it has the longevity. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Great list! And a secret from a fellow hardwater person. Vinegar….Our dishwasher has a compartment that is split in two parts. One part i fill with dishwasher detergent and the other with vinegar. No film. The only somewhat bad part is the house does smell like vinegar but I don’t mind that.

      1. Yup. and yes White vinegar is fine. I know some people use apple cider vinegar but I just grab the cheapest biggest bottle of white vinegar. It does the same thing as when you run it through your coffee maker. breaks it all down and leaves the dishes perfect.

  7. I’m always reading Kindle books on my phone! It’s so nice to not have piles of books littering the house anymore and I’ve read some great books that probably have never made a bookstore.

Straight A’s is something to be proud of and to have them pay off in cash and other help for your studies is even better!

    1. Yes! I never thought I’d want a kindle, but as soon as I even remotely expressed interest in seeing what they were about, the handsome husband showed up with it as an early Christmas gift a couple years ago. I LOVE IT! I finish one book & a click of a button & I’ve got the next one. . . Plus, it’s always the same size to carry around. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Love #1 on your list.
I also love king size beds. Used to have one, until I moved and that sucker was too big to bring along with me. You are able to stretch out for what feels like miles with all that space.
I love to write with a music channel on my cable on.
The feeling of the fresh, cool air that seems to magically appear with a spring rain is impossible to fully describe properly. It is the best feeling there is.
Congratulations on your success this week – from one home body to another.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I enjoyed reading this.

    1. Yes! And, my husband & I are NOT small people. . . A king bed is a HUGE difference from a queen. LOL. Yes, yes, & Yes! I am pleased to see we share some of these thoughts! ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you so much for taking the time to say so!
